Johan was born 16 Apr 1867 in Bo Parish, Örebro, Sweden. He was originally known as Johan Wilhelm Karlsson. In 1889 he moved to Stockholm and changed his name to Johan Wilhelm Nyman. On 17 May 1893 he emigrated to Chicago, Illinois. Johan never married and returned to Örebro, Sweden 17 Dec 1930. He lived with his sister Augusta and her children. I met Augusta's daughter, Svea Maria Jonsson in 1987. Johan was known as Uncle Bill. He tried to teach Svea English.
Although Uncle Bill never married he had two children. While still living in Sweden he had Gerda Natalia Johansson. It is not clear if he even knew about Gerda or if he went to Stockholm because he had gotten her mother pregnant. While renting a room from Paul & Anna Anderson, in Chicago, Uncle Bill had a child by his landlady. There is no official proof of this, but my grandmother told me that story and Svea also remembered being told that.

Every year Charlie Nye would visit his brother Bill in Chicago. He usually took his daughter, Mae, with him. Every year they had a picture taken that included Mrs. Anderson and Paul. Mr. Anderson and the other two sons were never included in the pictures.
